Public Whipping
Public whipping was a more sever punishment for smaller offenses, while this type of punishment was commonly reserved mainly for thieves and cheaters it would be seen in town square often. The convict would be tied to a pole either held by two men or a pole stuck in the ground, depending on the area of the body that would be whipped. Then those mainly affected by the crime would have control over the punishment along with prosecutors, but it was sometimes acceptable for public witnesses to join in on the festivities.
